*Please read this entire page to fully understand how to prepare for your session, what to avoid, what to expect and aftercare. We are not responsible for failure to do so, resulting in unwanted results or being sent home without service

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, vitamin E, niacin, or drink excessive alcohol at least 48 hours prior to and after your procedure.

  • Do not take any prescription blood thinners at least 48 hours prior to and after your procedure.

  • Discontinue any vitamin A skin care products (Retin-A, retinols) close to the enhancement area at least two weeks prior to your procedure. It is recommended NOT to use these products over or around the tattooed area after you receive your cosmetic tattoo. It could cause fading and distortion of color.

  • Discontinue use of AHA (chemical exfoliation) skin care products close to the area to be tattooed at least one week prior to your procedure.

  • No laser or electrolysis on or around the treatment area one week prior to procedure.

  • No Botox or fillers in the procedure area less than one week prior.

  • Plan trips or events a minimum of 14 days after the procedure. Due to unwanted elements Limit the amount of caffeine you consume the morning of your appointment.

  • Do not have any chemical peels, dermabrasions, mesotherapy, or any other intense treatments which will cause faster skin cell rejuvenating and cause skin irritation 3-4 weeks before procedure.

  • If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.

  • It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your booking fee. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

  • Your lips cannot be dry for the appointment. We advise exfoliating your lips 3 days before your appointment remove any dry skin. You can use a lip scrub or create your own by using salt or sugar mixed in coconut oil/other acceptable beauty oils. For the week leading up to the appointment you MUST moisturize your lips as much as possible (we recommend using Aquaphor (chapstick/lip moisturizer is also acceptable) multiple times per day).

  • Bring in your favorite lip color if you have a specific color your wanting to achieve

  • If you have existing cosmetic tattooing you need to contact Brittney@inkiebrowstudio.com BEFORE booking your appointment.

COLD SORES

  • Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo. If you have had a cold sore in the past, we advise for you to go to the doctor for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure as a preventative. Even if you have not had a cold sore before, we recommend all clients take L-lysine (vitamin) 2 weeks before the appointment and 2 weeks following the appointment to reduce the risk.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Your lips will feel swollen and dry after your treatment. Apply Aquaphor on lips several times a day. This should be done for at least 14 days post treatment. Do not allow lips to become dry. This may interfere with healed color. Just pat the ointment on the lip and do not rub in.

  • Always use a clean Q-tip or clean/sanitized fingers to apply ointment to the lips area. This will reduce the risk of infection.

  • After your lips are no longer tender to the touch they may become flaky. This is normal and is expected. Please do not pick or scratch at them as this may significantly reduce the amount pigment absorption.

  • Avoid sun and tanning beds pre and post procedure. Always be sure to use a sun block once lips are healed to preserve the color.

  • Do not use any Glycolic, Hydroxy or fruit acid products on lips. Avoid direct water pressure, pools and other bodies of water, until healed.

  • You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed. Redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness are all common post treatment side effects and will dissipate in a short period of time.

  • Avoid oily, salty, acidic foods and alcohol while healing.

  • Your lips may require one touch-up session (not included) $99, to complete the process of this procedure. Lip tissue can be unpredictable. Some clients will yield very strong healed lip color while others will only heal with slight color uptake. This will vary on an individual basis. Clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results. Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning.

  • If you have a history of Fever Blisters, Cold Sores or Chicken Pox, we again advise you to go to the doctor or for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure in order to help avoid an outbreak. Follow all before and after instructions after all lip treatments. If a lip retouch is needed, it must be scheduled 30 to 60 days apart from initial season to help with color retention.

LIP BLUSH AFTERCARE:

  • Remember, place nothing on the treated area (except your aftercare product) until healed. This this means no makeup, creams, water (except for cleansing as detailed below), etc.

  • After your procedure, your skin will start forming a protective scab. You may see fluid or ooze on the skin from lymph secretion. The fluid should be dabbed and blotted off with a sterile gauze pad. It can crust the skin over and prevent it from breathing and healing.

  • After 24 hours, clean the treated area daily with mild warm water and non-alcohol soap. Apply soapy solution on a sterile gauze and blot 4 to 5 times to clean. Then blot completely dry. Use patting motions only. No Scrubbing. No rubbing. No wiping. No scratching. Make sure the area is completely dry because germs love moisture!

  • Lips will ooze for a couple days and peel for a week or so. After sleeping, crust will have dried on the lips. Blot with water. Clean and apply aftercare product as directed. Try not to disturb the crust when cleaning and let it fall off by itself. Picking and pulling off skin that is not ready to come off will cause pigment loss and can pull out deeper tissue. The edges or lip liner will be the last to fall off. Pulling this off will result in an uneven splotchy line or an indented scar.

  • Apply aftercare product on the clean and dry treated area. Place the ointment on the scabs that are beginning to form. If you place ointment on the area and it is not dry, this may cause irritation or an infection and could lead to color loss.

  • Keep your lips moist all the times with the aftercare product. After approximately 3 weeks after the procedure when no more scabs are present, discontinue the aftercare product. Begin to apply sunblock appropriate for lips to protect the pigment and a good lip balm.

  • Lips will be tender at first after the procedure. Drink only through a straw. Choose to only eat foods you can place in your mouth with a fork without touching the lips.

  • Do not eat spicy foods or hot liquids for 48 hours after your procedure. It’s a good idea not to eat oily foods, salty foods, acidic foods or alcohol while healing.

  • Do not get toothpaste on your lips. It’s a good idea to brush your teeth with just water for 72 hrs post-treatment.

  • Do not bleach your teeth until your lips are healed.

  • Do not excessively stretch lips while they are healing with big smiles or pucker lips with smoking. Those motions push and pull against the lip edges, applying tension and friction between the strong normal skin surrounding the mouth and the broken inflamed lip edges. Lip skin is a continuation of the delicate mucous membrane of the mouth. It is not strong like normal skin.

  • Your lips will heal in three stages: Too dark - Too light - Just right. This takes one month to occur from start to finish. Detailed aftercare will be reiterated before/after session.
